What is very interesting about the DAM Vendor Pricing Survey process, however, is the number of vendors who were not confident enough in their own pricing strategy to agree to be part of this survey.
According to Ralph in his article on DAM News, “One of the more intriguing aspects of conducting the study which is covered in more depth in the analysis was the range of reasons why firms did not wish to be involved (in fact, ‘excuses’ might be a more accurate description). There appears to be a significant degree of fear and confusion across the DAM software industry about how much to charge ….”

The survey was scientifically conducted using real data submitted by DAM vendors and it is worth saying that no-one paid or was paid to be part of this. Vendors are anonymised, so there was no promotional benefit to underestimating (or overestimating) costs.
According to the survey, the average cost for a hosted (Saas/Cloud-based) DAM solution in year 1 is $37,846 and the average DAM solution has 850 read-only users, 101 upload/edit users and nine administrators.
The report is well worth a read, particularly if you are thinking about implementing a DAM system or are researching potential DAM vendors or DAM pricing as there is a section with purchasing advice and lessons learned from the survey.
